Initial Fitting for WalkAide
WalkAide is not a “one size fits all” device. A credentialed and trained
medical professional is required to evaluate, fit and customize WalkAide for each
individual. Once the trained medical professional positions WalkAide correctly on
the leg, he or she then programs the system using a software program called WalkAnalyst.
 |
WalkAide sends real-time data to and receives parameter changes from the WalkAnalyst
program wirelessly using Bluetooth wireless technology. The trained medical professional
will use the peripheral nerve stimulator to find the appropriate stimulation site
of the common peroneal nerve to stimulate dosiflexion.
|
When the optimal electrode positions have been found, the electrodes are attached
to the cuff using Velcro, and an initial walking trial is initiated. Walking data
is collected using WalkAnalyst, with the goal of optimizing the sensor operation
in creating a natural gait for the patient.
|
Follow-up
Once WalkAide is programmed, the trained medical professional will provide ongoing
follow-up. WalkAide programming tracks both the number of hours of use per day and
the number of steps per day for up to 72 days. This information quantifies activity
levels and compliance as well as documents improvements in walking abilities over
time, helping the trained medical professional to re-optimize the WalkAide system
at regular intervals and maximize outcomes for the user.
|
WalkAide is a sophisticated medical device that can only be prescribed by a physician.
As with all orthoses, a thorough evaluation by a credentialed and trained medical
professional will determine if WalkAide is right for a particular individual. To
